October 25 - Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum & Himeji Castle

Today, I went to Takarazuka city near Kobe.
That's where Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum is located.
You may not be familiar with the name Osamu Tezuka but he was the manga (Japanese comic) creator for the popular TV cartoon known in West as "Astro Boy". When I was a teenager, which wasn't that long ago as I recalled, I watched it on TV everyday after coming home from school.

In Japan, it is common to see so many high-voltage towers like these.
It seems everything here is run by electricity, including the Shinkansen.

Who is not afraid of the big bad EM radiation? Probably those people living there.

Those towers just look natural don't you think. I mean like pine trees.

To inform passengers on the arrival of trains, electronic sign like this is used.
The sign flips between Japanese and Japanese/English which happens in big cities.
But once you're in a rural area, the signs are normally shown in Japanese.

Here is Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum.
It's not a big museum but it has 3 levels.

Astro Boy original manga megazines.

The other characters that Tezuka-san created.

Looks like inside a Borg ship.
Actually it's the animation workshop.

A few of the antique tin toys.

This train looks futuristic but it's actually quite old, created in the 70's perhaps.

Little train enthusiasts.
And I'm the big one.

Live fugu (pufferfish).
If you didn't know, this type of fish has poisonous glands.
One tiny slip by the chef preparing the fish would certainly mean the last of his career and the beginning of the guests worst nightmare.
So, fugu anyone?

Let me introduce you to my partner, One-eyed Jack.
I don't know what happened to his eye-patch.
Probably lost it again.

Chrysantamum bonsai plant.

Beautiful chrysantamums.

Himeji-Jo or Himeji castle.
The Last Shogun was filmed partly inside.
This is one of the most popular castle in Japan.

Near the castle, there is a home-made udon restaurant.
So, I ordered this tempura udon.

The udon was really fresh and chewy too.
The broth was light but delicious.
I emptied the bowl.
Thinking of going back there for another bowl on my next visit, next week.

The cook is making more udons.

This is the restaurant.
